Seedling Production

Konya Şeker aiming to “plant trees as many as Turkey’s population” established its own Seedling Production Center in order to achieve this goal and to ensure sustainability in forestation. Konya Şeker started forestation works in 2004 with the aim of planting trees as many as Turkey’s population in order to fight drought and improve disruption in balance of the ecosystem in favor of producers. Seedling Production Center was put into operation in 2005 in order to give continuity to these works. Seedling Production Center which was first established with 50 decares of seedling production capacity, reached 1080 decares of size with new areas added later and production capacity of tree nursery was increased to 3,1 million seedling/year.

Konya Şeker carries out forestation works that it started in 2004 in the entire Konya Plain. With works that it carried out with seedlings produced by itself, Konya Şeker planted more than 19 million trees in double-sided forestation routes having up to 8 and 10 rows in 273 different routes in 4.550 kilometers of area which is located on roads connecting Konya with neighboring cities and districts and village roads and in 9.400 decares of mass forest areas created in 66 different places. As a result of seedlings planted, studies aiming at increasing efficiency of unit area by natural air conditioning and biologic fight against pests gave positive results in a short time. Konya Şeker also contributes to the development of fruit growing in the region by suppling and producing fruit scions and distributing them to the farmers in the region. In this framework, number of fruit scions distributed to producers in the region exceeded 465 thousand over the past 12 years.
