BIOMASS ENERGY GROUP

In Çumra Sugar Integrated Plants, which are the most tangible form of "zero waste production", every waste emerging in production process is used as raw material for another process. Thanks to new generation environment friendly technology, each waste is converted into biomass energy in modern plants.

BIOETHANOL PRODUCTION PLANT

Konya Şeker makes use of every waste and produces fuel of the future.

In order to make use of molasses which is by-product of sugar beet used in production process, it is invested in biomass energy whose share and value in world’s energy sector increase. For this purpose, Konya Şeker is the biggest bioethanol producer in Turkey with 84 million liters of production capacity per year in Bioethanol Production Plant completed in 2007. The plant which has 56 percent of Turkey's installed capacity has the technology which can make production by using directly molasses, thick juice and sugar beet...

Bioethanol produced in the plant can be used as fuel for being blended with gasoline. The reason for preferring bioethanol which is used compulsorily and commonly in developed countries with economic and environmentalist approaches and whose blending ratio is increased every year within the framework of necessity, prevents environmental problems and global warming. Assumed environmentalist mission has also been fulfilled with this investment made by diversifying energy portfolio of Turkey whose biggest import item is crude petroleum, with bioethanol which is a renewable energy source produced from domestic agricultural products.

With solvent production plant established in bioethanol plant in 2009, production of the first and only chemical industry input D-type ethanol whose production and distribution permission in Turkey was granted only to Konya Şeker, is made. All of the production made at this point is sold in exchange for imported ethanol and annual 15 million dollars of foreign exchange saving is enabled. This product is used as a printing ink raw material, as a solvent in printing and packaging industry and it is used in washer liquid  and antifreeze production.

Organic and Organomineral Fertilizer Production Unit which is contained within Bioethanol Plant, started production in 2010.

Another waste production unit which was established within Bioethanol Production Plant, is Liquid Carbon Dioxide Production Plant. Investment in plant where carbon dioxide getting out of fermentation reactors with bioethanol production will be converted into liquid carbon dioxide, was started in March 2012. The plant which started production in November 2012, utilizes produced liquid carbon dioxide primarily in capacity use of Sugar Plant. It is also used for production and quality improvement in green energy-operated greenhouses.

LIQUID CARBON DIOXIDE AND DRY ICE PRODUCTION

Konya Şeker converted carbon dioxide emerging in sugar production and released to the atmosphere into a commercial value.

Konya Şeker started to produce liquid carbon dioxide with an additional investment made in Bioethanol Production Plant which was established in order to utilize waste after sugar production. With plant which was completed in December 2012 and has 100 tons of production capacity per day, Konya Şeker started to produce plant origin liquid carbon dioxide which can be used in many areas by capturing carbon dioxide, emerging during production in Bioethanol Factory and released into atmosphere.

In this plant which is an extension of Konya Şeker's environmentalist production approach, carbon dioxide gas which is released during bioethanol production is converted into liquid carbon dioxide.

Carbon dioxide which is produced and can be stored as liquid, can be used in dry ice and many industry branches (iron and steel, waste water treatment, cooling, polymeric material processing, cleaning, fire extinguisher, storage and cushioning of hazardous material, etc.), especially in internal consumptions of Sugar Factories and greenhouses.
